The L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry has been doing ministry for almost 5 years now. It all began one Saturday night in November of 2002 when God began to lay the ground work for this ministry to the homeless.

The idea for this ministry started from weekly visits to Pleasant Valley Shelter. Pleasant Valley is a men’s emergency shelter on the Northside of Pittsburgh where up to 30 men are afforded temporary shelter for 60 days.
In Matthew 28, we read what is called The Great Commission of Jesus Christ. Christ is with His disciples for the last time, and what does He do? He tells them to go. That is the same mindset to which we approach ministry. Where there is need, we go. The prophet Isaiah, when he got a glimpse of God, did not utter here am I, send them to me. Instead, he begged God to send him.
So we started going to the Pleasant Valley Shelter to fellowship with the men and hold Bible Studies. After spending some time with the men and seeing more of their needs, we decided to do more. That is when we began doing special events such as trips to a Pirates’ Game, a clothing drive, and much more. One of our favorite things to do was join the body of Christ by having the homeless interact with some of our friends from the University of Pittsburgh. It was so great to see the glory of God work through these events.

But God still wanted to do more. Soon after, He laid it upon our hearts the idea of a housing project. This project would be a residential program where 6 men would live in a Christian community and would receive discipleship, life skills training, and extensive case management.
To this day, we are still trusting God and looking for and more opportunities to serve the homeless. In the upcoming months we will be looking to expand our Shelter Outreach as well as have another trip to see the Pirates, a carwash fundraiser, and a job fair for the homeless.
