Upcoming Opportunities
Everyone wants to be in the ‘know’. So here is your opportunity to know exactly what volunteers events are happening within the next few weeks at L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry. If any of these interest you contact Jenna Burdette at volunteer AT livingministry DOT org. For those seeking to be better commited, be sure to take a look at our ongoing opportunities.
Job Fair
Monday, March 5th 9am-1pm
Many of the homeless we serve are desperately looking for work. Some people are just a pay check away from ending up homeless. The ministry puts on a Job Fair twice a year to help keep some people from homelessness, and to help lift others out of it. Volunteers are needed this day to teach job readiness classes, prepare resumes, set/clean up, serve lunch and more! If you have skills acquiring employment, are good with your finances, love to cook and/or type, or just want to make yourself useful, we could really use your help at our job fair!
Stations of the Cross Luncheon
Saturday, April 7, 11am-2pm
This will be the second year that the ministry is hosting a Stations of the Cross luncheon. This is a two part event with the homeless where we set up and do a reflection on the last hours of Jesus’ life before His crucifixtion. After everyone goes through the stations, we enjoy a fellowship meal together, just like the disciples! About 10 people will be needed to help set up, cook, clean, and enjoy a wonderful lunch! Expect to bring about $5 to cover the cost of the homeless men and women that attend.
Women’s Luncheon
Sunday, April 15, 2pm-5pm
For the first time, L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry will be hosting a luncheon for women only! Because of the growth of the women’s ministry, we have decided to get together on a Sunday afternoon and just enjoy a meal together. If you are free and would like to participate, this would be a great chance to meet some of the women that Jen and Jenna serve. The lunch will occur at the ministry house and this opportunity is open to women and men. (Men will cook and serve the food and clean up).
Serving A Meal At Pleasant Valley
Wednesday, April 18th, 9-12:30pm
On Wednesday, April 18th, Pleasant Valley Shelter needs a group to serve a meal to its the participants of its drop-in program. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the drop-in is open for homeless men and women to come, take showers, catch a quick nap, and get a meal to eat. They have a cook that prepares meals when there is enough money in the budget, but they really appreciate volunteer groups coming in to serve the men and women directly. This opportunity is a hands-on opportunity as you will be coming face to face with the homeless and meeting a most basic physical need. As a group, you will be responsible for buying and preparing all of the food. Usually, food for 40 men costs around $100.
