One way to play your part in this ministry is to volunteer. Volunteering is so great because it comes in so many different shapes and sizes. You can volunteer for a single event, or commit to volunteer for ongoing events.

When we first started the ministry, our biggest need for volunteers was with our weekly shelter outreach. Since then we have expanded and take volunteers in just about any capacity. We have people volunteer by themselves, or in small or large groups. Our largest single group was about 50 people, but our most volunteers for a single event was over 175!
|
We also are extremely flexible in providing opportunities. This past summer, we had a group of 25 high school students come and serve with us for an entire week. They were from Western Ohio and helped us with projects at the Labor Halls, and the house, as well as helped coordinate our carwash. We have also had church groups do service projects with us to cook meals in the shelters, put bags of toiletries together for men in the shelters, or help play worship for our Sunday worship service. Either way, there are a myriad of opportunites. And if we don’t specificially do a certain thing, we would be more then glad to refer you to an organization that does.

Serving Meals

We are currently offering a great opportunity to serve a meal to the homeless and needy in our area. We have select dates available at Pleasant Valley Shelter where you can serve. This semester, the dates are February 3rd and June 6th. If any of these dates interest you, give us a call and we can explain all that you will need to know

Labor Hall Outreach

Another great program that we have currently going on is our Labor Hall Outreach. Every Thursday morning at 5:00 AM, we meet at the Bellefield Presbyterian Church (4001 Fifth Avenue in Oakland) and cook a hearty breakfast for the men and women of Labor Ready. After cooking the breakfast, we take it down to Labor Ready and serve. We usually arrive back in Oakland by 7:30 AM. This is an ongoing opportunity, but is also a sporadic ongoing opportunity. If you want to volunteer here, you will be put on a rotation and will probably only serve once every 4 weeks.

Workdays

About once a month, we meet together and work on our newly purchased second house. It is in need of a lot of work, and we are working diligently to get this work done. If you and your group would like to come by and help us work on the house, we can arrange a time for that to happen. Our next workday is Monday, January 18th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
